The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the hiker who tragically passed away last Sunday after suffering a medical emergency and falling approximately 40 feet down the Lanikai Pillbox Trail in Kailua. The man, 66-year-old Samuel Richardson, was from Maryland. ??

The exact cause of death is still unknown, according to the medical examiner’s office. ?❓

Honolulu’s firefighters were swiftly on the scene after a 911 call came in, reporting an injured hiker on the Lanikai Pillbox Trail just before 7:40 a.m. last Sunday. ⏰??

The Honolulu Fire Department reported that Richardson experienced a medical emergency while he was hiking and fell roughly 40 feet down the trail. Bystanders rushed to Richardson’s aid until the firefighters arrived. ??️

The Fire Department’s helicopter, Air 1, transported him to a landing zone at Lanikai Community Park where the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead. ??
