Choke stuffs going happen for da 95th annual Lei Day Celebration from 9 in da morning till 5 in da aftanoon dis coming Monday, right by da bandstand at Kapiolani Park. ???️

Dis celebration, wea everybody can come fo’ free, stay honoring da Hawaiian culture and showing off da mad skills and artistic talent of our local lei makers. All kine fresh floral leis going be on display for judging and for everybody fo’ enjoy. Dis year, da Lei Day theme stay “Lei Kuahiwi,” or mountain lei, all in line wit’ da city Department of Parks and Recreation. ??️?

Plenny lei sellers going be dea too, and Kulana Lei, one small village of Hawaiian artisans, going be open from 10 in da morning till 4:30 in da aftanoon. ?⏰?‍?

Da Royal Hawaiian Band going kick off da entertainment at 9 a.m., with mo’ performances throughout da day by Na Wahine O Ka Hula Mai Ka Pu‘uwai, Mark Yamanaka, Bobby Moderow Jr., Anthony Pfluke, Mana Maoli, Halau Hula ‘O Hokulani and da Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association. ???

Da investiture ceremony for 2023 Lei Queen Leilani Kupahu-Marino Kaho‘ano and her court, First Princess Melodie Lynn Leina‘ala Nalua‘i Vega and Princess Charlene Kapualani Kauhane Harano, going start at 11 a.m., with presentations, hula performances and offering of hookupu, or gifts. ???

Then at 12:30 p.m., da Lei Court going open da lei contest exhibit. If you like enter one fresh flower lei for da contest, you gotta bring um between 7:30 and 9 a.m. at da lei receiving booth on da day of da celebration. Da public going get chance fo’ check out da exhibit from 12:30 to 4:45 p.m. ??️?

Da closing ceremonies on Tuesday, open to da public too, going see lei from da contest exhibit placed on da graves of Hawaii alii at 9 a.m. at Mauna ‘Ala, da Royal Mausoleum, and at 10:15 a.m. at Kawaiaha‘o Church. ??⛪

Da very first Lei Day was celebrated on May 1, 1927, with just a handful people wearing lei in downtown Honolulu. As mo’ people start celebrate, da “May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii” tradition start bloom. Even during da COVID-19 pandemic, when large, in-person events was restricted, Lei Day was observed with one video presentation in 2021 and da Na Lei Koa in 2020 to honor first responders. ?️?‍♂️?‍⚕️

?? May Day Extravaganza: Showcasing Local Lei-Making Artistry ?

The 95th annual Lei Day Celebration is set to take place this Monday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the bandstand in Kapiolani Park. ???️

This free, traditional event celebrates Hawaiian culture and highlights the skill and craftsmanship of local lei makers. A variety of fresh floral leis will be on display for both judging and public admiration. This year’s Lei Day theme is “Lei Kuahiwi,” or mountain lei, in accordance with the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation. ??️?

There will also be plenty of lei sellers, and Kulana Lei, a community of Hawaiian artisans, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ?⏰?‍?

The Royal Hawaiian Band will kick off the day’s entertainment at 9 a.m., with more performances scheduled throughout the day from Na Wahine O Ka Hula Mai Ka Pu‘uwai, Mark Yamanaka, Bobby Moderow Jr., Anthony Pfluke, Mana Maoli, Halau Hula ‘O Hokulani, and the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association. ???

The closing ceremonies, which will also be open to the public, will take place on Tuesday. They will see leis from the contest exhibit placed on the graves of Hawaiian royalty at 9 a.m. at Mauna ‘Ala, the Royal Mausoleum, and at 10:15 a.m. at Kawaiaha‘o Church. ??⛪
