Da ‘Bows was looking fo’ make history by winning dea third national title, but things wen’ end up a bit different den what we all was hoping fo’. ?
In da first set, both UH and UCLA stay looking real strong, going point fo’ point an’ showing dat dey both stay ready fo’ one hard-fought match. ?? But aftah one long battle, da Bruins wen’ pull ahead an’ take da first set, 28-26. ?
Da second set wen’ start off rough fo’ da ‘Bows, as dey was down 19-13 at one point. But our bruddahs neva’ give up, an’ dey wen’ show some mean grit fo’ fight dea way back into da set. ?? One big moment wen’ come wen’ setter Jakob Thelle wen’ score his 122nd career ace, making him UH’s all-time career leader fo’ aces. ??
Da ‘Bows wen’ keep pushing, an’ aftah seven set points, dey finally wen’ take da second set, 33-31. ??
But tings wen’ change in da third set, wit’ UCLA taking da win an’ leaving our ‘Bows in one tough spot going into da fourth. ??
Despite da pressure, da ‘Bows wen’ continue fo’ battle to da very end, but in da end, UCLA wen’ take da fourth set. ?? Wit’ dat, da Bruins wen’ claim da title of 2023 Men’s Volleyball National Champions. ?

Hey, Hawai’i sports fans! The time has come for us to talk about how our very own University of Hawai’i (UH) Men’s Volleyball team took on the UCLA Bruins for the 2023 Men’s Volleyball National Championship in Fairfax, Virginia. ?️?
The ‘Bows were looking to make history by winning their third national title, but things ended up a bit different than what we all were hoping for. ?
In the first set, both UH and UCLA were looking really strong, going point for point and showing that they both were ready for a hard-fought match. ?? But after a long battle, the Bruins pulled ahead and took the first set, 28-26. ?
The second set started off rough for the ‘Bows, as they were down 19-13 at one point. But our brothers never gave up, and they showed some incredible grit to fight their way back into the set. ?? One big moment came when setter Jakob Thelle scored his 122nd career ace, making him UH’s all-time career leader for aces. ??
The ‘Bows kept pushing, and after seven set points, they finally took the second set, 33-31. ??
But things changed in the third set, with UCLA taking the win and leaving our ‘Bows in a tough spot going into the fourth. ??
Despite the pressure, the ‘Bows continued to battle to the very end, but in the end, UCLA took the fourth set. ?? With that, the Bruins claimed the title of 2023 Men’s Volleyball National Champions. ?
Our UH brothers, Dimitrios Mouchlias and Jakob Thelle, expressed how proud they were of giving their all during the game and for the brotherhood they built with their teammates. ?? The bond they created is more important than the results, and that’s something we can all take to heart. ??
So, the UH Men’s Volleyball team ended the year with a 29-3 record and now we’re saying goodbye to seniors Jakob Thelle, Dimitrios Mouchlias, Cole Hogland, Kanai Akana, Filip Humler, and Devon Johnson. ??
The ‘Bows might not have won the championship this time, but they represented Hawai’i with pride and the aloha spirit. ?? We’re proud of them, and we’ll support them as they continue to work towards success in the future. ??
